Researchers from Colorado State University are working to better understand the EHV-1 virus and how the horses immune system immediately responds as it first enters the repertory system. The researchers will be studing the cells from the epithelium. The epithelium is the lining of the repertory system.
Doctors at the university believe that the virus “hides” from the immune sytem. By better understanding how the immune system reacts as the virus enters the repertory “gate” they may better understand how to treat the virus. If a more effective treament can be developed then hope is EHV-1 outbreaks can be better contained.
