Dr Hartman Exams Fracture
Dr Hartman is seen here examining a depression fracture to determine if there will be any long term affects. Luckily, radiographs confirm this fracture is located below and to the side of the brain and the horse should see no long term affects.
A depression fracture is the result of traumatic blunt force impact. In the case of the skull, it is often the result of a horse hitting their head on a hard object or being kicked.
Skull depression fractures can also be seen in rearing up incidents and trailer accidents.
