An extensive Pre-purchase exam is a more intense evaluation from a sports medicine perspective. This is going over acu-pressure points, back and SI evaluations and motion of the neck and back. This exam often involves comparing old x-rays to those taken with this current exam. This evaluation takes much longer to perform and involves all of the basic exam procedures plus these added areas of deep evaluation. This exam often involves baseline x-rays, ultrasound evaluations as needed and could include endoscopy.
During the initial exam your veterinarian can also make notes regarding the horse’s temperament and behavior. Be on the lookout for any undesirable stable vices such as weaving or cribbing.
