Dr. Johanna Klein brings a lifelong connection to animals and broad experience in equine medicine to the Mid-Rivers Veterinary Care team.
A Colorado native and Missouri re-transplant, Dr. Klein grew up on her family’s farm and ranch, where caring for animals was part of everyday life. Her experience extends well beyond horses. She has shown goats, raised a Grand Champion rabbit and developed an early appreciation for the important relationship between animal health, performance and quality of life.
Dr. Klein earned both her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and Master of Public Health degrees from the University of Missouri. She went on to complete a year-long equine medicine and surgery internship at Oakridge Equine Hospital in Edmond, Oklahoma, followed by additional internship training at the University of Missouri.
After completing her internships, Dr. Klein returned to Colorado, where she spent four years practicing equine medicine before returning to Missouri to join Mid-Rivers Veterinary Care.
Dr. Klein has experience across a wide range of equine medical needs, with special interests in emergency and critical care, colic management, lameness, wound management and dentistry. She enjoys working with horses across disciplines and life stages, from equine athletes and working horses to longtime companions.
Her approach to veterinary medicine reflects the perspective she developed growing up around animals: good care is not simply about treating illness. It is about helping each animal remain as healthy, comfortable and capable as possible.
Outside of veterinary medicine, Dr. Klein enjoys riding, kayaking, hiking, baking and quilting. And true to her farm roots, there is always a good chance you may find her somewhere near a goat.
