Dr. Alexandra “Sunny” Devereux has been riding horses since before she could walk. Horses have never been a hobby for Dr. Devereux, but a way of life. As a serious equestrian, she traveled throughout the country competing in A-rated hunter/jumper shows in the Grad Prix ring and dressage shows at the Prix St. George level.
Dr. Devereux always knew she wanted to be a veterinarian. Proof of which can be found on her mother’s kitchen wall where the photo of her dressed as a veterinarian for career day is proudly displayed.
Dr. Devereux received her undergraduate degree from Texas A&M University (Go Aggies), earning a degree in animal sciences. Before attending veterinary school, she spent nearly two years in Germany where she competed on the international circuit while working for an equine referral hospital as a veterinary technician.
Dr. Devereux earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Ross University at St. Kitts and performed her clinical year at the University of Missouri. Dr. Devereux was first introduced to Mid-Rivers Equine Centre when she spent a month with Mid-Rivers as an extern during her clinical year at the University of Missouri. Upon completing her internship year at the University of Missouri, Dr. Devereux became a full-time member of the Mid-Rivers Equine Centre’s team of doctors.
Dr. Devereux’s competitive showing background makes her exceedingly passionate and dedicated to equine sports medicine. Her medical training combined with her years of competitive riding make her uniquely qualified when it comes to understanding the balance between veterinary medicine and the desire to maximize the athletic potential of each equine.
Dr. Devereux’s practice focuses on equine lameness, performance horse medicine, gastroenterology, surgery, and neonatology.
