Dr. Dawn Hoover earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Missouri’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 1999. After graduation Dr. Hoover joined the Mid-Rivers Equine Centre as an intern. She completed her internship in 2000 and was hired on as an associate veterinarian.
Dr. Hoover grew up on a large cattle farm in North Central Missouri. She grew up riding working quarter-type horses on her parent’s ranch working cattle and becoming intrigued with everything about horses. Her goal from the start of her college career was to be an equine veterinarian.
Dr. Hoover’s idea of the perfect day is getting to work with her clients, those she fondly refers to as her people and their horses. It’s all about relationships and a passion for helping her patients live long and healthy lives. Dr. Hoover’s practice is focused on Wellness Care and she brings a specialized aspect of care to the practice through her interest in alternative medicine. Dr. Hoover is a Certified Acupuncturist. She graduated from the Chi Institute in 2004 and has trained the other doctors in the art of lameness diagnosis through evaluation of acupuncture trigger points.
Dr. Hoover has a passion for baking, gardening, traveling to exotic places and is an award winning confectioner. Jams and jellies are her sweet specialties. Dr. Hoover lives in St. Charles County along with husband, Mark Michelswirth, a well known farrier in eastern Missouri.
