Progressive Nutrition has produced a valuable tool in their Topline Evaluation video. If you’ve noticed your horses’ topline changing, it might be a nutritional problem. The topline is basically the outline of the epaxial muscles that run along the dorsal spinous processes. These muscles typically give the back a flat appearance and in many horses they profile higher then the dorsal midline itself. When the topline begins to deteriorate, owners most often notice the withers are hollowed out and the backbone appears to stick up. This video will help you evaluate your horses topline.
